At 7:23 pm the meeting was called to order by President Maren.

Maren makes announcements.

That dues are now due and they are $25.00.

That Mr. Schaffer is taking orders for Nucs and Packages.

That we have two new Master Beekeepers.

Bob announces and awards Tim Weible and Ernie their Master Beekeeper Certificates.

Tim presents information on Mason Bees. Mason Bee Pollination opportunity for $75 that includes set up of houses and trays, delivery of Mason bee cocoons and then retrieval. If interest, please contact Tim at 360-791-3910.

Phil also announces Tim’s Accelerated Apprentice Class. It is one day a week for 6 weeks and starts at 3-19-19 and will be held in the library of Chinook Middle School.

Maren talks about the recent board meeting, that our next board meeting is on January 29th, and to please let us know if a member would like to attend.

Tammy presents information about pursuing 501c3 status. The room is surveyed and a majority showed their interest in pursuing 501c3 status. The process is discussed as well as what the bylaws say. There is a general acceptance that the information will be posted for review and an official motion made and voted on at the February meeting.

The motion is that OBA shall pursue 501(c)3 IRS status. And amend the By Laws, II. Objective to say:

          The Olympia Beekeepers Association is organized exclusively to engage in charitable educational activities including, for such purpose, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

          No part of the net earnings of the corporation shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributable to its members, trustees, officers, or other private persons, except that the corporation shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth in By Laws, II., hereof. No substantial part of the activities of the corporation shall be the carrying on of propaganda, or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, and the corporation shall not participate in, or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. Notwithstanding any other provision of these articles, the corporation shall not carry on any other activities not permitted to be carried on (a) by a corporation exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code, or (b) by a corporation, contributions to which are deductible under section 170(c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

Club Break

Maren discussed upcoming WSBA Conference. It’s set for February 9, 2019 in Cheney, WA.

Lynn presented the available library of the club, and specifically what she brought to the club, and talked about what she brought to the club for check out.

Club held their raffle.
