Hive Mind Q&A – what should we be doing right now?

  • Going to get warm this weekend – you should see bees getting active!
  • Check to see if you need to feed – not a lot in bloom right now – feed 1:1 sugar water
  • Beekeeping Today podcast just finished 4-part series (continuation of a series started in 2020) on beekeepingtoday.com about “Getting started with Beekeeping” – equipment, location, 3 P’s of beekeeping (Pests, Predators, Pesticides)
  • Prepping woodware – clean, torch or sand, paint if needed (gives a few weeks for the paint to “off-gas” – only paint on the outside), foundations ready, bottom and top boards
  • If have any dead-outs, get those cleaned up
  • A little mold should be OK, bees will clean that up
